7 Ways to Bring Coastal Style Into Your Home

It’s summer, and to me that brings visions of sunny days, warm evenings and lazy days at the beach with sand in between my toes.

While relaxing in one of our favorite places to go for a little beach getaway, I always admire the gorgeous little cottages that line the streets. Their weathered cedar shingles are the perfect silvery gray, and their porches are covered in beautiful bougainvillea blooms.

I would love to live a cottage in a coastal town one day, but until then I enjoy adding a bit of a beach vibe to my decor for the summer. Sometimes it’s with color, and sometimes just a few pieces of coral and starfish are all it takes.

Here are 7  ways that I loved to get a bit of the coastal vibe in your home:

1. Add a bit of color

This beach-blue bedroom is simply saturated in the hues of the beach sky. I love the simple touches, like the starfish and the sand pail on the bookshelves too.

2. Nautical touches

The model boat and a few fish bring such a nautical feel to this room. My favorite elements? The bold red-painted beds and the fisherman’s creel lamp.

3. A fun sea-inspired mirror

What do you do with all those seashells you find while walking the shoreline? Why not take something like a mirror or frame, and give it a coastal makeover. I love how they used oyster shells to create this beautiful piece.

4. Wicker indoors

Sometimes, something you might have already out on your porch — like a set of great wicker — works perfectly for bringing a coastal touch. Just new cushions and pillows are all they need.

5. Coastal artwork

A few pieces of artwork depicting coastal living bring a beach feel to a room, and are easy to change when you want to decorate differently. I also love bringing in vintage art, such as old boating or fishing paintings, that are easy to incorporate with several looks.

6. White slips and colorful pillows

I love the fresh coastal look of this breakfast nook. Crisp white slipcovers, colorful patterned pillows and a painted table. Perfect.

7. Beach garland
